Dental Assistant Program 

Classes are all done online, in which video lectures and materials are reviewed at home. Get started in a non-credit undergraduate program and earn credentials employers recognize.

This program will cover topics essential to becoming a dental assistant. Students will learn the legal and ethical responsibilities of the dental healthcare worker. An introduction to general dental settings and office procedures will be covered as well as the principles of microbiology, disease prevention, and infection control procedures. By the completion of this program, students will have knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the mouth as it relates to dental functions.

Area of Study Include

路 Description of legal and ethical responsibilities of the dental health care worker
路 General dental setting/office procedures
路 Principles of microbiology and disease prevention and infection control procedures
路 Anatomy and physiology as it relates to Dental functions
路 Record patient assessment data; use and knowledge of dental instruments and equipment
路 Pharmacology and anesthesia as they relate to dentistry

  • Prerequisites
  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or G.E.D
  • Proficient in vocabulary, comprehension, and math concepts

Certification

The course guides students to prepare for the NELDA certification.
Students can take the three exams (RHS + ICE + AMP) immediately upon finishing the course. To obtain NELDA certification, students must finish all three exams and be employed as a dental assistant and log 300-3000 hours, accrued over a period of at least two months and no more than three years before taking the exam.

Employment must be verified by a licensed dentist. dental assistant certification examination, which is administered by the American Dental Association (ADA). Successfully completing this exam makes you a "Certified Dental Assistant".

The externship serves as working experience, as well as a reference for future employment. For an additional fee of $450, students receive hands-on-training by completing a 120 clock-hour externship at a local dental site through MK Education.
